Meet the academic
Dr Jacqueline Campbell
Dr Jacqueline Campbell is the Course Director for the UG and PG Data Science courses at Leeds Beckett University. She graduated in Mathematics from Cardiff University before working in the technology industry progressing from graduate roles to senior database consultancy roles. Her links with industry are key to her teaching, and she actively maintains this engagement in order to inform the curriculum, develop consultancy services and support the students in their ability to connect and become part of the thriving Leeds Digital and Technology sector. As well as leading across a range of subjects in the computing curriculum, Jacqueline has held a number of management roles across the University including academic leadership, enterprise pioneer, employability lead, placements and personal tutoring. Her passion for data has driven her teaching areas, drawing on interesting stories and case studies to provide context and application to the subject. She is an expert in enquiry based learning which involves presenting 'the problem' to the students to explore, research and find solutions for. In this way the students are able to own their learning and the pace at which they work, whilst investigating real issues. Appointed a Senior Teacher Fellow, in recognition of teaching excellence, she uses technology and team-teaching techniques extensively. Jacqueline has a Doctorate in Education, through which she drew on sociological approaches and theories to explore computing students. Technology, sociology and education are her main areas of research which is currently focused on data and technology bias, and informed evaluation of data analytics with respect to process and outcomes. She is also a School Governor and runs a maths homework club in the local community.
