To celebrate International Girls in ICT Day, this Insight Event will focus on the technology and wider STEM opportunities at Fujitsu. You’ll discover the benefits of pursuing ICT and hear inspirational stories from the professionals who did it first. With an added emphasis on well-being, you’ll learn about the role that wellness plays at Fujitsu, plus how to practice it yourself!

International Girls in ICT Day is an annual global initiative that takes place, this year, on the 27th April. It aims to encourage young women and girls to pursue careers and studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), particularly ICT.

Students in the UK, aged 12 - 14 are welcome to apply.

You’ll learn about the importance of ICT at Fujitsu, as well as the abundance of roles ICT plays a part in. When will I hear back if I have been successful with my application?

All live talks will be available as recordings. You can access these at the same link used to access the live event. So don’t worry if you can’t attend a live webinar, a recording will be available for you to access through your programme within 24 hours of the live event finishing.

What happens if I can't make a live talk/webinar?

You will have a chance to ask questions at the end of each webinar. These questions are typed out and then read to the presenter by the host of the live talk. There is no need to speak, and all student microphones will be muted for the duration of the live webinar.

Staying on track and keeping a close eye on project management is key to bringing a project to life. This module will look at the teams, roles and responsibilities involved in development feedback, project management, and timelines. There’ll even top tips that’ll help you stay on track, and get your idea closer to reality.  

Development

From recipe development to ingredient sourcing, this module will provide you with valuable insight into all things pricing at Pret. After learning more about the teams, roles and processes involved at different stages of development and sourcing, you’ll get a taste of how to ascertain the cost of a product from ingredients and how they’re sourced through a costing tutorial, before hearing more from leading industry professionals offering bonus tips, hints and pathway information in a live webinar. You’ll finish off the module with an immersive costing activity.

What is marketing? How are marketing channels used? What’s needed to create a stand-out marketing campaign? This module aims to answer all of these questions and more! Once you’ve brushed up on the 7Ps of marketing and explored the rise of digital marketing, you’ll find out more about Pret’s marketing strategy, completing the module with an activity all about planning your very own product launch.

You might not realise it, but branding is an integral part of any company’s image and how it’s perceived by customers. In this module, you’ll delve deeper into the fascinating world of branding and packaging. After a whistle-stop tour of key brand elements for Pret, you’ll take a closer look at how branding and packaging have evolved over time. You’ll even learn about key visual considerations, and how the right elements help create the characteristics of all Pret packaging! Using everything you’ve learnt - including top tips and advice shared in the live webinar - you’ll have a go at designing your own eye-catching packaging.

Branding and Packaging

So, it’s finally time to launch a product - what happens now? This module will take you through an overview of ‘launch day’ and the different teams involved in this exciting stage. From an overview of how products are presented and talked about to how they are incorporated into current offerings and served, you’ll also learn more about ‘point of sale’. To explore this in more detail, you’ll hear from industry professionals in a live webinar, before having a go at adding your own notes about launch day to your designs.

Can I enrol onto multiple programmes?

Yes! Once every section of the programme is marked as complete, you can download your certificate and show it off!

Will I receive a certificate once I’ve completed the programme?

We understand that life happens and deadlines aren’t always easy to meet. Luckily, most of our programmes are flexible and can easily fit around your schedule. However, it’s still a good idea to check the specific start and end dates at the beginning of the programme.

How long will I have to complete the programme?

Though we recommend attending, if you can’t make a live talk, don’t panic! A recording will be added within 24 hours of the webinar’s end time.

What happens if I can’t make a live webinar?

You’ll definitely get the chance to ask questions, in fact, we encourage it! Rather than using your microphone (it never goes as smoothly as you expect, right?), simply type your question using the chat function and the presenter will read it aloud.

Can I ask questions during webinars and do I need my microphone enabled?

Look, we get it, student life is busy! If you don’t finish your work experience in time, there’s no need to worry! You’ll still have access to the programme after its official end date.

What happens if I can’t finish the programme in time?

Our programmes take up around ten hours of work in total, usually spread over a two week period. So, before signing up to a programme, perhaps think about how much time you’ve got to spare and what other commitments you’ll have to work around.

How much work is required to complete a virtual work experience programme?

This module will introduce you to heritage, a career myth-buster, what Historic England does, the company’s vision and values, and their strive for sustainability.

Who are Historic England?

This is the first of the programme’s three ‘core’ modules covering archaeological investigation, buildings, science, and research. We’ll also highlight a case study relating to these areas, plus specific careers and skills. There’ll be a live webinar, an interactive activity and a knowledge review quiz, too!

Understanding the Historic Environment

This module will highlight how Historic England protects the historic environment and manage change. We’ll explore the National Heritage List for England, a relevant case study and the careers available in this area. You’ll then hear from industry experts in this module’s live webinar before completing an interactive activity and end-of-module quiz.

Protecting the Historic Environment and Managing Change

The last of the ‘core’ modules will focus on creative careers at Historic England. We’ll cover a subject-specific case study, highlight the skills needed and test your knowledge with an activity and interactive quiz. There’ll be a live webinar, too, where you can hear from the professionals themselves.

Contributing Creatively to Heritage

Discover the specific pathways into Historic England in this module. We’ll cover multiple early career options, the application process and the values and behaviours needed to excel at Historic England. This module centres on all things employability. What employability skills are needed for a successful career at Historic England, and how do you channel these in yourself? This was an amazing experience. First of all, thank you for all the hard work you put into creating this! This was really and truly an amazing experience for me to take part in. I loved every module in this programme, and the experience each one gave me. Unlike other virtual work experiences I've taken part in, this one successfully made me feel like I was a part of the company, made me feel like Vodafone was home. And I liked that feeling, that even though this was just a work experience, It made me feel like pursuing a career path with Vodafone would be just the thing for me, and this feeling of consolidation in what I want, especially in a time of such uncertainty, is euphoric. An introduction to Heathrow

Heathrow is an economic driver that generates millions of pounds worth of business. We’ll get an overview of different roles in business at Heathrow, such as finance and procurement, capital projects and HR!

Industry introduction

In this module, we’re going to look at some of the key business functions at Heathrow, from human resources to financial management. We’ll figure out how they work and hear from the people behind them! In this module’s activity, you’ll test your people skills, by dealing with a difficult customers complaint the best way you can! 

Business management

Every business will have a strategy of how they want to move forward and be a success, the same goes for Heathrow! In this module, we’re going to have a look at Heathrow’s business, hospitality, marketing and brand strategies. We’ll look at the factors that go into creating a strategy and in this module’s activity, you’ll create your own strategy to attract celebrity clients.

Business strategy

Finally, this employability module will equip you with all the essential skills needed as you enter the world of work - think all things teamwork and leadership. You’ll also be given advice on how to perfect your CV to ensure your engineering career has a smooth takeoff. 

On average there are roughly 1,300 take-offs and landings every day at Heathrow, making it one of the busiest airports in the world. Not only that, but more than 76,000 are employed at Heathrow, so it comes as no surprise, that they need a whole load of people making sure things are running smoothly. In this virtual work experience programme, we’re going to take a look at how Heathrow runs as a business. 

All students are eligible to participate in the programmme.

You’ll be able to take part in five live webinars, where you’ll learn about the business, from people in the business! You’ll take part in activities that test your customer service skills, encourage you to think about what career path is best for you and get you ready for the world of work.

The volunteers on the live sessions were all really nice and down to earth which was really good to hear proper experiences in this industry, without sugar coating or hiding anything. Making something fly either in space or around the world is not a one-person job so in this module we'll introduce you to the company, its core values and its global reach. In this module we'll have a look at the work Airbus does in space, from its spacecraft portfolio to the development of the ExoMars Rover. In this module, you’ll get an overview of the role engineering plays at Heathrow. We’ll also explain the importance of airside health and safety at London's busiest airport. You’ll get to know the team, including the companies that work with Heathrow on some of their most complex projects and in this module's activity, you’ll explore why engineering speaks to you. 

Industry Introduction

This module will take you through the necessary first steps for a successful career in rail. You will learn all about the importance of rail for Heathrow specifically, and have the opportunity to attend a Tour of the Track Transit System (TTS) workshop. The live webinar will give you the opportunity to ask the industry professionals any burning questions, while our TTS activity will put your knowledge of rail health and safety to the test. The volunteers on the live sessions were all really nice and down to earth which was really good to hear proper experiences in this industry, without sugar coating or hiding anything. To the people who made this project brief and stuff for us: I really enjoyed it and I thought it was the perfect topic and it's nice to bring more awareness and knowledge of this subject to more people! Also all the videos were really nice on this programme. Very full of life and engaging!

Thank you for providing opportunity for young people like me who had no previous exposure to the industry/ This programme has some great elements that differentiates itself with other work experience providers. The programmeg particularly focuses on ourselves: our confidence, our skills and what we want to do in the future rather than just the work opportunities available and how to get there. Who Are Specsavers?

This module will cover what optometry is, the wonders of the eye, the roles on optometry and how optometry uses innovation and technology. You’ll also get to meet an optical professional during this module’s live webinar, before completing a quiz at the end.

Optometry

This module will cover what audiology is, the wonders of the ear, how audiology uses innovation and technology and the roles in audiology. You’ll

also complete an interactive activity and meet an auditory professional, before completing a quiz at the end.

Audiology

This module will cover the role (and importance) of customer service at Specsavers, the innovation in customer services and the roles this area encompasses. You’ll also complete an interactive activity and meet a customer service professional, before doing a quiz at the end.

Customer Service

This module will cover the range of support roles at Specsavers, why they’re important, what each of them involves and how to get a support role. We’ll hone in on HR, marketing, technology, finance, legal, supply chain, manufacturing and distribution and retail support, completing a couple of activities along the way.

Support Roles

This module will introduce you to apprenticeships at Specsavers, how to get them and which ones are currently available. You’ll also hear from a former apprentice, meet a current apprentice during this module’s live webinar and complete an interactive activity.
