In this fascinating experience, Dr Seán Henry delves into the world of social change and explores its relationship with education. In episode one, you’ll discover how education can shape society and influence social change. You’ll learn how learning empowers individuals and communities, how social inequalities can be challenged, and how grassroots movements and critical thinking can transform the world. You’ll also explore the complex ways education can both liberate and limit opportunities. In the second episode, you’ll learn about Paulo Freire and the social context that shaped his ideas. You’ll explore how poverty, dictatorship, and Cold War politics influenced his work, and how Pedagogy of the Oppressed connected with liberation movements across the Global South. You’ll see how education was reimagined as a tool for freedom, empowerment, and social justice. In episode three, you’ll dive deeper into Paulo Freire’s ideas of critical pedagogy and learn about his rejection of the “banking” model, his vision for problem-posing education, and the global impact of his work. You’ll also see how Freire’s concepts impact the world as it is today and learn about how others have built on his legacy to connect education with social justice. In the final episode, you’ll learn about the teaching methodologies adopted by many schools and museums around the world. You’ll then have the opportunity to connect critical pedagogy to two specific examples and discuss why problem-posing can be used to enhance the learning experience!
