Meet the academic
Dr Michael Newell

Dr Michael Newell is a Senior Lecturer in Health, Nutrition and Exercise at the School of Sport Science and Physical Activity, University of Bedfordshire. His expertise lies in exercise physiology, with a particular emphasis on nutrition, metabolism, metabolic health, and hydration. Michael is also a Registered Nutritionist with over 9 years of experience in conducting research trials that focus on exercise physiology and nutrition. He is currently a board member of the Institute of Sport and Physical Activity Research at the University of Bedfordshire and an active researcher within the themes of Health and Wellbeing and Exercise Performance. Michael has also previously been the Course Leader for the MSc Sport and Exercise Nutrition programme at the University of Westminster, and worked as a post-doctoral Research Manager at the Medical Research Council Human Nutrition Research Unit in Cambridge. Additionally, he has worked as the Innovation Manager and Research fellow for the Need for Nutrition Education and College Research Associate for Wolfson College University of Cambridge.
