Join Ben Woodrow-Hirst as he dives into the world of healthcare. In episode one, Ben outlines what the role of an ODP actually is. He also goes on to explain the various departments of healthcare where you may come across an ODP and what their interaction with the wider team is. In episode two, Ben looks at the regulatory body that maintains high standards across the healthcare profession. In episode three, Ben details some of the common scenarios that ODPs may encounter during their practice. He outlines the scenario and then addresses the correct approach to each case, before discussing some of the ethical and moral factors that need to be considered in each. In the final episode, Ben discusses why activities are so important throughout your study and career as an ODP. He then sets you an activity which mirrors a real world scenario!

Meet the academic
Ben Woodrow-Hirst

Ben is a HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner and is a lecturer on the ODP course at the University of Staffordshire. As well as undertaking his core teaching roIe, Ben has an active interest in studying gamification, serious games, and playful learning strategies within Higher Education. Ben is currently undertaking research in using technology and these strategies to support pre-clinical placement confidence. Ben is a neurodiversity advocate and always looks to create inclusive learning environments for learners. Additionally, Ben runs the School’s inter-disciplinary Podcast (The Link) and runs Dungeons & Dragons sessions for the University for learners and staff.
